Calvin  “Tabby” Patrick Murrell

Calvin “Tabby” Patrick Murrell, 100, of Sulphur, La. passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024. He was born to his late parents, Joseph and Emelia Murrell on May 12, 1924 in Church Point, La. He was employed by Firestone for 43 years before he retired. He enjoyed gardening, grafting trees, traveling the world, woodworking which included carpentry work, and always lending a helping hand whenever needed. Tabby was also former part owner of High Hope Care Center in Sulphur. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, where he was an usher for over 50 years. 

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Retha Sandell Murrell; brother, Jimmy Murrell (Linda Kay) of Sulphur; sisters, Yvonne Trahan of Sulphur, Mary LaBove of Sweetlake, Frances Helmer of Sulphur, and Stella Johnson (William) of Sulphur, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Tabby is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Murrell, Wayne Murrell, Raymond Murrell, and Billy Murrell; along with his sisters, Norma Nassar, Gernise Leger, and Veronica Trahan.

A Celebration of Tabby’s life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, La. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 1 p.m. with Deacon Patrick LaPoint Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss.
