STATE TRACK: Boullion sets 3A 400 state record, Saints finish second Parkview Baptist

Last year, St. Louis Catholic’s Hannah Boullion helped set the state relay records. This time she set an individual state record at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association state outdoor track and field championships on Friday at LSU Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Boullion set the Class 3A 400-meter dash record and won the 200, edging rival Jayla Mason of Lake Charles College Prep in both races.

Boullion ran a 54.87 to defend her 400 state title and knocked .02 seconds off the class record that was set by St. Louis Catholic’s Halyn Sengal in 2021. Boullion Mason for the second consecutive year in the 400 state finals. Mason was the runner-up at 54.99 seconds.

Boullion beat Mason by .03 seconds with a time of 24.77 seconds in the 200, and was part of the Saints’ state champion 4×200 relay team (Halee Jackson, Jayla King, Boullion, Brylee Williams, 1:41.45.

Boullion helped set the indoor Division II (3:59.16) and Class 3A outdoor 4×400 (3:51.02) relay record last year.

Along with a first-place finish in the 4×400 relay and Ella Buller’s gold in the high jump, the St. Louis girls finished as the runner-up (58) to Parkview Baptist (74.5).

The Lake Charles College Prep boys had to settle for a second runner-up finish to Glen Oaks this year. Glen Oaks won the 3A boys team title with 80 points, while the Trailblazers finished with 63. Glen Oaks beat LCCP 49-47 for the Division II indoor title in February.

The Trailblazers were powered by their relays, earning 32 of their 63 points with first in the 4×100 (41.60 — Ayden Carter, Braylen White, Kai Fontenot, Careion Franklin) and 4×400 (3:20.50 — Williams Plaster, Franklin, Javerion Johnson, Khel Arvie), and runner-up in the 4×200 (1:27.46 — Carter, Franklin, White, Fontenot) and 4×800 (8:14.67 — Arvie, Jayden Walker, Plaster, Ajani Rhoden).

Also in Class 3A, South Beauregard’s Kenzie Hudler defended her discus state title with a throw of 128 feet, 2 inches. Iowa’s Brianna Underwood was the runner-up at 126-7 as well as in the javelin (135-4).

In Class 2A, Amaya Shine took gold in the 200 dash (25.16), second in the 100 (12.53) and led the Eagles 4×400 relay team (Shine, Hayley Calcote, Aaleyiah Pollard, Gesam Dickson) to a state championship with a time of 4:02.50.
