Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission in need of sponsors for Patriot’s Ball

- A statue of First Lieutenant Douglas B. Fournet at Veterans Memorial Park in Lake Charles. Fournet was posthumously presented the Medal of Honor for his actions May 4, 1968, during the Vietnam War. Fournet used his body as a shield in front of a mine. When it detonated it killed him instantly. His heroic actions spared his men serious injury or death, according to the Congressional Medal of Honor citation. Fournet was from Kinder and attended McNeese. Mayor and Mrs. Nicholas E. Hunter and the city of Lake Charles Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission will host the 16th annual Patriot’s Ball on Saturday, June 29, at L’Auberge du Lac.
The Patriot’s Ball is the main fundraising event for the Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission, which supports area veterans, patriotic projects and activities.
The Commission is currently in need of four Eagle Sponsors at $2,500 each to help round out sponsorships for the event.
