City, Region 5 STEM Center hosting canoe-building competition May 11

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, aspiring canoe builders will once again set sail from the sandy shores of I-10 North Beach in Lake Charles.

The city of Lake Charles and the Region 5 STEM Center are teaming up to launch STEM-based fun with the return of the Canoe Building Competition.

Geared towards middle, high school and post-high school students, teams can now register to participate in this unique contest. Teams will work to build their own cardboard canoe and then will have the opportunity to put their creation to the test on Saturday, May 11. Cardboard, tape and safety gear will be provided to teams. This will be a free and open to the public spectator event.
