St. Amant won its third consecutive state championship and ninth overall with a wire-to-wire win over Ponchatoula on Saturday at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association state softball tournament in Sulphur.

The Gators were powered by solo home runs in the third and fifth innings by Alix Franklin and Emmaleigh Theriot.

Sydni Stanga hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning to gut St. Amant’s lead to 4-2.

Braylee Decoteau pitched a complete game for the Gators, allowing two earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Pontchatoula was playing in a state championship softball game for the first time in program history.

Division II

#2 Lutcher 9

#1 North DeSoto 4

Lutcher ended North DeSoto’s string of three consecutive state championships on Saturday by beating the Griffins 9-4.

Lutcher won its first state championship since 2009.

Lutcher’s Blair Clement and North DeSoto’s Laney Johnson locked into a pitchers’ duel through the first three innings, but the Bulldogs scored five runs in the top of the fourth to take control of the game when Clement hit a one-out grand slam. Clement added a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Clement pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts and one walk.

Payton Miller led North DeSoto at the plate going 2 for 4 and two RBI with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Division III

#1 Sterlington 1

#2 Doyle 0

Sterlington’s Maddie Taylor pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Panthers to a 1-0 win over Doyle and their first state championship since 2003.

Taylor held Doyle to five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Sterlington’s Sullivan Cannon scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seven when Taylor was walked with the bases loaded. That followed the Panthers’ semifinal walk-off win on Friday when they beat Jena 3-2 on Jaleeyah Alford’s RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.

Division IV

#3 Montgomery 5

#5 French Settlement 4

Taylor Gongre’s walk-off hit helped Montgomery knockoff defending champion French Settlement 5-4 on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s title game.

Gongre’s double with no outs plated Zoey Fitts, who reached on a leadoff double. Fitts went 3 for 4 and scored twice.

French Settlement took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning, including two on an error.

Ava Acosta, Stella Allison and Remie Gautreau had two hits apiece for French Settlement.

B Crayon pitched a complete game for Montgomery, allowing one earned run with one strikeout and two walks.

Division V

#1 Quitman 8

#6 Stanley 1

C Deal pitched a two-hitter to lead Quitman to its first state championship in program history Saturday.

Deal struck out 11 and walked four as the Wolverines beat Stanley 8-1. She struck out four of the last six batters she faced.

Hallie Pullig drove in five runs and went 2 for 4 for Quitman. She had a pair of doubles, including a three-run hit in the first inning. Maggie Guyotte went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Riley Palmer drove in Stanley’s only run on a double in the top of the fifth inning.

#5 Archbishop Chapelle 2

#2 John Curtis Christian 1

Kayla Giardina had a stellar performance in the circle Saturday to lead Archbishop Chapelle to its first state championship in program history.

Giardina pitched a complete game two-hitters with 12 strikeouts and one walk in the 2-1 win over John Curtis Christian.

The Patriots were trying to three-peat as state champions and made their fifth consecutive championship game appearance.

Bayleigh Hammer scored the go-ahead run on Mia Impastato’s sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning.

Division II

#2 Vandebilt Catholic 7

#1 Buckeye 3

Corin Talbot slugged two home runs as Vandebilt Catholic beat Buckeye 7-3 Saturday for its first state championship since 2010, increasing their state-leading total to 15.

Talbot hit two-run homers in the fourth and fifth innings as the Terriers built a 6-0 lead.

In the circle, Talbot struck out seven batters, walked four in seven innings and didn’t give up an earned run.

Buckeye was going for its third consecutive state title but never took the lead and trailed 7-0 before Adysen Mitchell’s RBI double got the Panthers on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Division III

#1 Calvary Baptist 10

#3 Houma Christian 9

Calvary Baptist survived a slugfest Saturday to win its fourth consecutive state softball championship, 10-9 over Houma Christian.

The teams combined for 10 extra-base hits. Carlie Guile, Ramsey Walker hit home runs for Calvary and combined to dive in five runs. Leadoff batter DJ Lynch went 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBI.

Calvary trailed 8-7 until the Cavaliers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including the go-ahead run on an error.

Jadyn Yesso went 4 for 5 for Houma Christian with three runs scored, three RBI and two doubles.

Division IV

#1 Opelousas Catholic 1

#2 Catholic-Pointe Coupee 0, 11 inns.

The pitchers’ duel in the select Division IV state championship game went into the 11th inning before Opelousas Catholic pulled out its first state championship win.

With two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning, Opelousas Catholic’s Madison Ludeau singled to left field and Madison Faul scored on an error.

Catholic-Pointe Coupee left a runner in scoring position in the top of the 10th inning.

Opelousas Catholic’s Ashley Little pitched 11 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Catholic-PC’s Morgan Landry struck out nine and walked four in 10 2/3 innings.

Division V

#1 Grace Christian 12

#2 Family Community 2

Grace Christian made the most of its first championship game appearance on Saturday by run-ruling Family Community 12-2 in five innings.

Leadoff batter Sydney Avery and two-hole hitter Wynnlee Vincent combined for nine RBI. Vincent went 4 for 4 with four RBI, and Avery went 2 for 4 with two runs, four RBI plus a double and triple.

Rylee Guillot struck out five and held Family Community to two unearned runs on five hits.
