Opal Lee Allee Snatic

Opal Lee Snatic passed away peacefully at home in Richmond, Texas on Jan. 15, 2024. She was 99 ½ years of age. Opal was born on July 29, 1924 in north Louisiana. Her parents were Minnie and Luther Allee, who preceded her in death.

Opal and her family moved to Lake Charles when she was young.

Eventually, she met Harold J. Snatic, the love of her life and future husband. Opal and Harold were married until his death in 1987. Opal also dearly loved her in-laws, who quickly became her family. She loved being with them and frequently enjoyed their company over meals, coffee, and at holiday celebrations. She also dearly loved her friend, Toni LaFleur, with whom she talked every day and spent countless hours.

Opal is survived by her daughter, Vickie Marie Snatic Darsey, as well as her dear grandson, William G. “Rig” Darsey IV. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her lifelong friend, Melinda Anne LaFleur Veron, and her husband, Mike Veron.

Opal was a gracious and pretty lady whose blue eyes and infectious laugh lit up the room. She was energetic and led an active life. She was active in her church, First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. Opal took great pride in her family, her home, and her appearance. She especially enjoyed traveling near and far and was always up for a “road trip” with her daughter, Vickie Marie.

Opal will be missed and remembered by many as a great friend who was always willing to lend a sympathetic ear when needed.

A private memorial service celebrating Opal’s life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Highland Park Cemetery in Lake Charles. Father Keith Pellerin will preside.
