Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a single vehicle accident at about 6:30 a.m. Friday morning at the intersection of Gill Drive and Koonce Road in Sulphur.

Spokesperson Kaylva Vincent said an SUV was traveling westbound on Koonce Road when for unknown reasons it left the roadway near Gill Drive.

“The SUV struck a tree and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene,” Vincent said.

The fatality is still under investigation, she said.

As mandated by state law a toxicology report will be conducted.

The release of the identity of the driver is pending next of kin notification, Vincent said.
