A disturbance moving across the region will produce widespread thunderstorms this morning through mid-afternoon.

“These storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall that could lead to localized street flooding,” said Donald Jones, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office. “A few of these storms will also have the potential to produce hail and damaging winds along and south of the I-10 corridor.”

Total precipitation amounts — which are likely to occur in bursts — will range from one to three inches.

Jones said a cold front will sweep the storms out of the area by late this afternoon with cooler, drier air filtering into the region tonight into Monday.
