Sempra Infrastructure is working to reduce the carbon intensity of the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) produced at its facilities. That includes Cameron LNG, the export terminal located in Hackberry, 18 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico on the Calcasieu Ship Channel.

LNG carbon intensity refers to greenhouse gas emissions.

Kym Butler, a spokesperson for Semra Infrastructure shared the news last month to answer the question of how Biden’s pause on new and expanding LNG projects might impact Cameron LNG. It won’t.

“We are currently pursuing two carbon sequestration projects that are proximal to the Cameron LNG and Port Arthur LNG sites,”Butler said.

Earlier this month, Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, announced that it and Japan Bank for International Cooperation would collaborate on this energy transition project, and the first step was entering into a memorandum of understanding (MOU.

“Through this MOU, Sempra Infrastructure and JBIC aim to improve the global energy supply chain through LNG, hydrogen and other decarbonization projects in the United States and Japan.

The referenced MOU is a preliminary, non-binding arrangement, and the development of any project in connection with the MOU is contingent upon completing the required commercial agreements, securing and/or maintaining all necessary permits, obtaining financing, and reaching a final investment decision, among other factors and considerations, according to the press release.
