WEATHER WATCH: Rain in Mardi Gras weekend forecast

The weather pattern over Southwest Louisiana is becoming “increasingly unsettled,” as several disturbances will lead to occasional periods of showers and storms, according to the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office.

The likeliest chances for rain are expected on Saturday and Sunday.

“There is a risk for heavy rainfall on Saturday with the greatest potential across northern and central Louisiana into east central Texas, and a risk for severe weather areawide on Sunday,” according to the agency.

Lake Charles has a 40-80 percent chance of receiving rain on Saturday and a 50-90 percent chance on Sunday. Temperatures for both days are forecast to be in the mid-70s.

Damaging winds are possible.
