A Lake Charles man has been charged with the sexual battery of a child under the age of 10.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said her office received a complaint on Jan. 8 in reference to a sexual battery.

During the investigation the victim disclosed Wilmer Banegas-Velasquez, 38,had inappropriate sexual contact with him, Vincent said.

“Detectives attempted to locate Velasquez but were unsuccessful,” Vincent said. “After further investigation, later the same day, Judge Tony Fazzio signed a warrant in the amount of $350,000 for his arrest.”

Vincent said officers with Lake Charles police located Veasquez on Thursday.

He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with sexual battery (victim under the age of 13).
