State Police: Alcohol likely factor in fatal rollover crash

Louisiana State Police Troop E believe alcohol was involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash that killed a 30-year-old Pitkin man on New Year’s Eve.

The crash, which remains under investigation, happened just after 5 a.m. on Sunday on La. 113 at Earnest Thompson Road east of Pitkin in Vernon Parish.

The victim has been identified as Eric Robinson.

According to investigators, Robinson was traveling north on La. 113 when he drove off the roadway and traveled through a ditch before overturning.

Robinson, who was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash.

He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Routine toxicology samples were collected and have been submitted for analysis.

There were a total of 55 fatal crashes in the Troop E area in 2023, resulting in 61 deaths,
