Carol was born on June 12, 1933 to Orville Holman and Thelma Marler Holman at her grandmother’s house in Oberlin, La. Her family’s home was Elton, La. so that was where she lived in her early years on a rice farm. Her move to Kinder, La. at 10 years old was an exciting time for her. She had friends and was a good scholar, in fact, so good she was Salutatorian of the graduating class of 1951, She later entered McNeese State University majoring in Medical Technology where she also met her late husband, A.C. May.  After finishing that course, she went on to study Science and taught grade school to 2nd graders for two years in Kinder, La. In February 1956, A.C.’s tour was complete and reunited with Carol, while teaching, and they were married June 4, 1956. They had just celebrated 66 years of marriage before he passed away June 8, 2022.

After college, she worked in the Lab at the first Lake Charles Charity Hospital on Kirkman St. for two years.

Later, they adopted and became the proud parents of one son and two daughters. She raised the kids and helped in the family business at Pelican Cigar in Lake Charles for 15 years.
