The Louisiana High School Athletic Association football playoffs will kick off today with four games involving Southwest Louisiana teams.

A pair of area teams will meet at Oakdale High School in the bi-district round of the nonselect Division IV playoffs when the No. 10 Warriors (7-3) host No. 23 East Beauregard (6-4).

Since a two-game slump in the middle of the season, the Warriors have won three of their last four games, with their lone loss by a single point to District 4-2A champion Holy Savior Menard in Week 9.

Warriors have used multiple backs all season with five having run for more than 275 yards, led by quarterback Deekota Johnson (64-747, 12 TDs) and running back Ruffin George (77-534, 4 TDs).

Oakdale also has a pair of two-way threats Elijah Anderson (9 TDs, 2 rushing, 2 punt return, 5 receiving) and Derrick Green (7 TDs, 5 rushing, 1 kickoff return, 1 receiving).

While the Trojans are known for a punishing double-wing offense, the key likely rests with their defense. East Beauregard is 6-0 when limiting opponents to two or fewer scores.

The offensive backfield of Freddy Beall, Caleb Johnson and Zane Hildreth has combined for 2,520 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns. Beall and Johnson have both lined up under center this season and Johnson has three receiving touchdowns in his last three games.

The No. 17 DeRidder Dragons (6-4) will travel to No. 16 Lakeshore (5-4) in the nonselect Division II playoffs in hopes of winning their first postseason game since 2013 and will face a Titans team that is on a four-game win streak.

A pair of sophomores — Javaughn Fairley (738 yards, 7 TDs) and Reed Williams (776 yards, 15 TDs) — have led the offense.

While the offense has some youth, the defense is led by upperclassmen, limiting opponents to 15.3 points a game. Junior linebacker Dylon Rhodes leads the Dragons with 93 tackles, while senior linebacker Kenias St. Romain has 86 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and 17 quarterback hurries. Junior defensive back Jatari Harris has three interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

In nonselect Division III, No. 28 Westlake (3-7) will look to rekindle the success it enjoyed earlier in the season when it heads east to take on No. 5 Bogalusa (5-4).

The Rams started the season 3-0 with a young squad but limped into the playoffs with a seven-game losing streak and was the last team in the playoff field.

Westlake has a big-play passing game combo of quarterback Brody Anderson and wide receiver Kevin Rideau Jr., while the Lumberjacks rely on dual-threat quarterback Ashton Levi (1,687 passing yds., 767 rushing yds., 26 total TDs).

Since a shutout loss to rival Oakdale in Week 2, Oberlin (8-2) has been on fire, winning seven of its last eight games. The District 5-1A champion looks to open the playoffs with a win for a third consecutive season when the No. 11 Tigers host No. 22 Centerville (6-4). The Tigers have the second-best defense in Southwest Louisiana at 13.6 points a game.
