Thrills, chills and fun — here are the Halloween happenings in SW La.

Gather up your ghosts and goblins and pay a visit to some of these area destinations for a bit of Halloween trick or treating and fall fun.

St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Trunk or Treat: 4822 Carlyss Drive, Sulphur, in the church parking lot 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27

Sam Houston Jones State Park Trunk or Treat 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The staff and friends group at Sam Houston Jones State Park will have vehicles decorated for Halloween in the campground area. Kids will be able to “Trunk or Treat” at decorated vehicles as well as with participating campers.  Normal entrance fees apply.

Moss Bluff United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch, 735 Sam Houston Jones Parkway 3- 6:30 p.m. Oct.r 24- 31.

St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church Trunk or Treat and ‘A Night at the Movies’ Fall Celebration. Treats, Games, Kona Ice and more. Sunday Oct. 29, at 5 p.m., 1500 Country Club Road. Also accepting canned goods and other donations to support  children in  Sierra Leone.

Enterprise Boulevard Church of Christ Trunk or Treat at 2801 Enterprise Blvd. 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Fellowship, food and family fun.

Trunk or Treat hosted by Southwest Louisiana Association of Realtors, 791 Bayou Pines, noon – 2 p.m.Saturdy, Oct. 28.

Trunk or Treat with Mardi Gras Krewes at Sam Houston Jones State Park, 107 Sutherland Road, 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. Join them for a night of frightful fun and fabulous costumes! $3 entry  fee.

Apostolic Temple’s Pumpkin Patch, 2711 W. Prien Lake Road. 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 3-7 p.m. Monday – Friday; Saturday 9:30 a.m. -7 p.m. through Oct. 31.

BOO-tastic Bash: The City of Lake Charles will once again partner with Prien Lake Mall to provide a safe Halloween experience for the entire family on Oct. 31. The BOO-tastic Bash will feature a mall-wide trick-or-treat, from 5-7 p.m. Children are invited to come in costume to scour the mall and its retailers for candy, while supplies last. The Prien Lake Mall is located at 496 E. Prien Lake Road. The event is free and open to the public. Toy weapons will not be allowed and masks may only be worn during trick-or-treating. The City recommends that trick-or-treat activities end at 8 p.m. that evening. Parents are encouraged to have their children home by 8:30 p.m. unless they are attending a supervised function sponsored by other parents or civic organizations.

Sale Street Baptist Church Trunk or Treat: Sale Street Baptist Church at 1611 W. Sale Road will hold its annual Trunk or Treat 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. This event is a fun, safe, and FREE event open to the community. Bring a big bag for lots of candy.

ALLEN PARISH

There is plenty of Halloween and fall fun for families to enjoy this year in Allen and Jeff Davis parishes, including costume contests, pumpkin decorating, games, haunted houses, mazes, food trucks, treats and more.

Pumpkin Festival

GRANT — The Grant Christmas Tree Farm, 716 Whitaker Road, will hold a Pumpkin Festival 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. Activities include pumpkin painting, carnival games, a petting zoo, a magician (Saturday only), gospel music (Saturday only), mudpie kitchen, swings, treats, food and more. Free admission, but some activities, including zipline, train rides and cage maze will cost $5. For more information call the farm at  318-634-3408.

Harvest Fest

KINDER – Kingsfarm United Pentecostal Church, 519 Jessie Johnson Road, will hold a Harvest Festival noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. Activities will include free food, trunk or treat, games for all ages, a silent auction, bake sale, live entertainment and more. For more information, contact the church at 337-738-2160.

Fall Fest

OBERLIN — The Allen Parish Libraries,Town of Oberlin, Circle of Friends, American Legion 144 and Oberlin Fire District 5 will hold a Community Fall Fest, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. Activities include a haunted house, games, food, trunk or treats and more. There will also be an illusional house at the library, a maze at the American Legion 144, hay rides, food, music, trunk or treat and movie in the town park. For more information call 1-800-960-3015.

Downtown Oakdale Trick or Treating

OAKDALE – Oakdale will host Downtown Trick or Treating, 5:30-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31. Businesses and organizations will set up booths and tents to hand out treats to children. For more information contact City Hall at 318-335-1111.

Harvest Festival

KINDER – The Grand Church, 205 First Avenue, will hold its annual Harvest Festival 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. There will be an obstacle course, mechanical bull rides, a maze, petting zoo, hayrides, games, food and more. Haunted House

KINDER – Allen Parish Fire District 4, 802 Second Avenue, will hold a haunted house beginning at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. The event is open free to
the public.

Downtown Kinder Halloween

KINDER – Downtown Kinder will be open 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 for a community Halloween event. Individuals and businesses will be set up to hand out candy on Fourth Avenue in front of the library. For more information, contact Town Hall at 337-738-2620.

Trunk R Treat

KINDER – The Indian Village United Pentecostal Church, 4480 La. 383, will hold a Trunk R Treat 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31. There will be food trucks and candy for the kids. For more information, contact the church at 337-738-3045.

JEFF DAVIS PARISH

Halloween Fest
in Welsh

WELSH – Halloween Fest will be held 12:30-3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 29 in downtown Welsh. There will be a pumpkin painting contest, costume contest, cupcake decorating, Halloween ceramic painting, face painting, photo op area, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy and more.

Boo on the Avenue

LAKE ARTHUR – Boo on the Avenue will be held Sunday, Oct. 29 in downtown Lake Arthur. There will be a chili cook-off starting at 8 a.m. with bowls of chili sold after judging at 4 p.m. Games and other activities will be held 2-5 p.m. There will be a small fee for games and activities. Activities include games, a pumpkin decorating contest, costume contest, photo booth, haunted house, pumpkin bake-of and more. Train rides will begin at 2 p.m. and continue during the goody giveaway at 5 p.m. For more information contact the Town Hall at 337-774-2211.

Trunk or Treat
at Sowela

JENNINGS – The Sowela Technical Community College-Morgan Smith Campus will hold a Trunk or Treat 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Jennings campus, 2110 N. Welsh Trunk or Treat

WELSH – The town of Welsh will hold a Trunk or Treat, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 in Sportsman Park, 103 West Grove Street. There will be free hot dogs and family friendly activities. For more information contact City Hall at 337-734-2231.

Trick or Treat
on Main Street

JENNINGS – The City of Jennings will hold its annual Trick or Treat on Main Street, 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. Area businesses and organizations will be on hand to pass out candy and other treats along Main Street in the downtown area. Citywide trick or treating will be held 5-7 p.m. For more information contact City Hall at 337-821-5500.

Veterans Home
Halloween

JENNINGS – Trick or treaters are invited to the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home, 1610 Evangeline Road, 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. There will be a spooky house.

Trunk or Treat at the Pavilion

FENTON – The village of Fenton will hold a Trunk or Treat 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 at the town’s pavilion.

DeRidder, La.

Multiple festive events will be hosted in DeRidder to celebrate Halloween this year, in addition to Citywide trick-or-treating from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Gothic Jail After Dark Haunted
Attraction

The Gothic Jail – 250 W. 1st St. DeRidder – will be hosting the After Dark Haunted Attraction from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28 and from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31. Admission is $20.

October Fest

October Fest will be hosted by St. Joseph Catholic Church from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 28. The event will include “games, crafts, hot dogs, candy, a cake walk, costume contest and more,” according to the City of DeRidder.

Fall Festivals

Also on Saturday, Oct. 28 will be the Turning Point Apostolic Church – 1918 N. Pine St. – will host the annual Fall Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. Guests will get to celebrate with trunk-or-treat and a costume contest, in addition to classic festival activities like games, a bounce house and train rides. There will also be a chili-cook off and gospel singing.

On Sunday, Oct. 29, two fall festivals will be hosted. The first is from 5 to 7 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church, 3122 Hwy. 190 West. In addition to regular festivities, Confidence K9s will give a special presentation at 7 p.m.  The second will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 3261 Hwy. 171 South.

On Halloween Day, Tuesday, October 31, Westview Baptist Church, 1800 Blankenship Dr., will host their Fall Fest from 6 to 8 p.m.. The DeRidder Fire Department will be making a special stop with a fire truck for guests.

Trunk-or-Treat Events

The first trunk-or-treat event will be hosted by VFW Post 3619 from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 at 1115 La. 27 in DeRidder. Vehicles can be decorated from 4 to 6 p.m. Two trunk-or-treats will be hosted from 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween: First Church DeRidder, 120 Mahlon St. and The Bilbo Church of Christ, 782 Bilbo St.

Trick-or-Treat Trail

At  5:30 p.m. at Bryant Park, 115 W. 1st St., the City of DeRidder will host their Trick-of-Treat Trail, which features multiple candy stations with classic treats.

Halloween Carnival

Westwood Manor Nursing Home, 714 High School Drive, will hold their Halloween Carnival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween, featuring games, prizes and treats.
