Sylvia “CB” Prater Smith was born on Feb. 26, 1954 to the late Joyce Prater and Austin Prater in Sulphur, La. CB attended Mossville Elementary and Westlake High.  CB married Robert Smith Jr. on Jun. 20, 1970.To this union two children were born, Shavon and Thaddeaus Smith. CB was a member of the Adult choir, Matrons and was the church secretary for many years. She was an employee of Calcasieu Marine National Bank for over 18 years. She also was a long term employee of Cameron State Bank as an AVP for the payroll deptartment until her health began to fail her in 2009.  CB’s hobbies were watching Lifetime TV and shopping, especially at K-Mart.  Whenever you saw CB, you were always greeted with a beautiful smile.  CB departed this earthly life on Oct. 14, 2023 at 11:23 a.m. at Landmark of Lake Charles.  Preceding CB in death are her husband, Robert Smith Jr.; her mother and father, Joyce Edwards Prater and Austin Prater; one brother, Claude Joseph and one sister, Portia Carter.

Left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Shavon (Casey) Robinson of Lake Charles, La.; one son, Thaddeaus (Jenitra) Smith of Little Elm, Texas; four grandchildren, Donaven Smith of Fort Johnson, La., Aron Smith of San Francisco, Calif., Micah Smith of Little Elm, Texas and Ilona Crittenden; one sister, Beverly (Ricky) Deville of Lake Charles, La. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sulphur.  Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Stevens’ Funeral Home.  Visitation Sat 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
