Selma Rae Fontenot, 82, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2023 in a local care center.

Selma was born to Tanas and Lillian Augustine on Nov. 25, 1940 in Mamou, La.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Rapheal Fontenot; her daughter, Monique Fontenot Warren; parents, Lillian and Tanas Augustine, and her sister, Elizabeth Guillory.

Those left to mourn her passing is her son, Craig Fontenot and wife, Lisa of Vinton; her daughter, Lynne Denison and husband, John of Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jared Fontenot, Jeffery Fontenot, Brennan Fontenot, John Ray Denison, Joel Denison, Josh Denison, and Joseph Denison; 12 great-grandchildren and her brother, Wilton Augustine of Sulphur.

Selma had a blessed life, raising and working with her family in Vinton, La. and practicing her faith at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Vinton where she was a Charter Member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Carlos Garcia will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and from 8 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday in the funeral home.
