Marilyn  Lavoi  Bourque

Marilyn Carol Lavoi Bourque, 81, of Lake Charles passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Bourque was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles.  She was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and Demmons School of Beauty.  During her younger years, she had a little shop at the side of her home where she welcomed friends and family for countless “styles”.  She later began working for Dr. Drez, Dr. Griffin and Dr. Morein from where  she retired over twenty years later.  Mrs. Bourque was proud of her Italian heritage and gatherings as a member of the Amicaas Club. She was a talented “handyman” having restored and finished many projects through the years.  Mrs. Bourque was also a gifted interior designer and decorator, Christmas being her favorite décor.  A longtime member of The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, she instilled the importance of faith and prayer in her family.  She will be remembered for her faith and immense love of family.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Angie Bourque VanPelt (Dennis) of Lake Charles; three sons, James Ronald Bourque Jr. (Terri) of Lake Charles, John Anthony Bourque of Hammond and Joseph Brian Bourque Sr. of Lake Charles; one sister, Judy Landry of Lake Charles; two brothers, Ronald Lavoi and Michael Lavoi, both of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Joseph Brian Bourque Jr. (Sam), Megan Nicole Mouton (Jeremy), Misty Lynn Mercer (Troy) and Kourtnee Joy Bourque; six great-grandchildren, Kylie, Austin, Kaysie, Kinley, Blake and Korie and a host of nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Ronald Bourque Sr.; parents, Sidney Anthony Lavoi Sr. and Angeline Scalisi Lavoi; two brothers, Robert Jasper Lavoi and Sidney Anthony Lavoi Jr. and son-in-law, Dennis Roy VanPelt.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in of Lake Charles.  Father Sam Bond will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery.
