‘Movies Under the Stars’ set to return in October

Get ready to carve out some Halloween excitement in October at “Movies Under the Stars.”

The series will feature these four, frightening, yet family-friendly, flicks:

  • Friday, Oct. 6 – “Scoob:” In this 2020 computer-animated comedy, the one-and-only Scooby-Doo (voiced by Frank Welker) and his pals Shaggy (Will Forte), Velma (Gina Rodriguez), Fred (Zac Efron) and Daphne (Amanda Seyfried) face their most challenging mystery ever — a plot to unleash the ghost dog, Cerberus, into the world. As they race to prevent this, the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and purpose that is greater than anyone imagined. (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at Prien Lake Park, 3700 Prien Lake Road, Lake Charles.
  • Friday, Oct. 13 – “Monsters University:” In this computer-animated comedy, Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and James P. “Sully” Sullivan (John Goodman) are the best of buds, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment this unlikely pair met at Monsters University, they couldn’t stand each other. This movie tells the tale of how Mike and Sully overcame their differences. (Rated G). This movie will be shown at McNeese State University’s Bulber Auditorium, 4205 Ryan St., Lake Charles.
  • Friday, Oct. 20 – “Addams Family:” In this 2019 computer-animated supernatural comedy,  the Addams family’s lives begin to unravel when they face-off against an unscrupulous reality-TV host. At the same time, they’re trying to keep it all together while preparing for their extended family to arrive for a major rite-of-passage celebration for Pugsley. Voice actors include Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Better Midler and Allison Janney. (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at Mallard Junction Park, 599 August Drive, Lake Charles.
  • Friday, Oct. 27 – “Coco:” Despite his family’s decades-old music ban, young Miguel (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). In an effort to prove his talent, Miguel winds up in the colorful “Land of the Dead,” where he meets a charming con artist named Héctor. The two then embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history (Rated PG). This movie will be shown at River Bluff Park, 543 Theriot Road, Moss Bluff.

All movies will start at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to get there early to get the best spots. Residents are encouraged to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and food. Free popcorn and cotton candy will be served at each event.

Movie-goers are also invited to wear family-friendly Halloween costumes to each movie.

Movies will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. Cancellations will be announced before the event on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s website at calcasieu.gov and on CPPJ’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
