Tropical depression forms over Yucatan Channel

Tropical Depression 10 has formed over the Yucatan Channel and is expected to head north across the eastern Gulf of Mexico into early next week with potential landfall as a hurricane in northwest Florida.

“There are no direct tropical impacts; however, this system will likely increase gradient wind gusts on Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Joe Rua, lead forecaster of the National Weather Services’s Lake Charles office. “Since these winds will likely be from the northeast bringing in drier air that would increase the fire danger risk again.”

A few showers are expected with light rainfall amounts on Tuesday with this system, Rua said. The higher rain chances on late Sunday into Monday is with a frontal system.
