Tors sharp in jamboree Constance tosses four TD passes

SULPHUR — Sulphur senior quarterback Addison Constance showcased his arm to lead the Tors to a 35-0 win over LaGrange Friday night in the Stelly Physical and Occupational Therapy Jamboree at Matt Walker Memorial Stadium.

Constance completed 6 of 7 passes for 136 yards and threw touchdowns on four consecutive passes in the third of the jamboree’s four games.

His first was a long 52-yard toss to Austin Babaz with 10:11 left in the first half. He followed that with a 9-yard pass to 6-foot-6 tight end J.D. Lafleur, an LSU commitment.

With 4:35 left in the first half, Constance found junior Jackson Beddoe, who broke several tackles for a 37-yard score. His final scoring pass was an 11-yarder to Ian Malone, who got a huge block from Lafleur just before reaching the goal line.

Paxton VanMetre kicked a pair of field goals for the Tors, including a 35-yarder as time expired in the first half.

The Tors defense harassed LaGrange quarterback Saint Mckenzie all night. He was sacked in the end zone by Drake Mays and Carson Cauvin. Sulphur’s Alijah Coleman and Jace Keiser had interceptions.

Mckenzie completed 6 of 17 passes for 73 yards.

Sulphur limited LaGrange to 24 yards of total offense.

The Vinton defense set the tone in the opener of the second day of the jamboree, limiting the Red Devils 18 total yards on 27 plays.

Jeremiah Holts blocked a punt with 4:33 left in the first half to give the Lions a short field and Jaidon Briggs scored on a 6-yard run to make the score 20-0.

Junior defensive back Cameron Reeves snuffed out Pickering’s opening drive of the second half with an interception, and freshman Kason Hillery broke off a 20-yard run to up the Lions’ lead to 26-0.

It didn’t take long for the Lions offense to get going. On the second play from scrimmage, Briggs showed his speed with a 49-yard sprint for a 6-0 lead. Briggs finished with 80 yards on three carries. Hillery added 31 on two carries.

Vinton quarterback Braylon Beard completed all three of his passes for 87 yards, including a 54-yard scoring strike to Freddie Budwine with 7:10 left in the first half.

Pickering struggled to hold on to the ball with seven fumbles and cross midfield once.

Xavier Mitchell led the Red Devils with 28 yards on eight carries.

Both teams struggled to move the ball, but DeQuincy did just enough.

DeQuincy was held to 91 total yards, but its defense didn’t allow a first down and limited Rosepine to 8 total yards.

DeQuincy defensive end DaCorius Griffin had a sack and tackle for a loss, Lindsey Joyce made an interception and M.J. Clark added a sack.

Rosepine moved the ball 2 yards on its opening drive, then lost 7 yards on a punt. The Tigers took advantage of it when Carson Wainwright hit Quentin Pharris for a 2-yard score with 10:24 left in the first half.

DeQuincy running backs Wyatt Lavergne and Nigile Ceasar combined for 68 yards on 19 carries.

The Saints limited Welsh to 154 yards and forced three fumbles.

The game’s lone score came early in the second half and was set up by a fumble recovery.

St. Louis quarterback Luke Pierson hit Trey Tate for 20 yards and Kyle Turner finished the drive with a 4-yard run with 13:31 to go in the second half. Luke Mere scored the 2-point conversion on a swinging-gate play.

Pierson completed 8 of 13 passes for 79 yards.

Welsh quarterback Jonavon Begnaud ran for 51 yards on 12 carries and completed 6 of 13 passes for 40 yards.
