Gil to serve on Board of Regents

Sam Gil, McNeese State University Student Government Association president, will serve a one-year term on the Louisiana Board of Regents as the student board member.

As SGA president, Gil is a member of the Council of Student Body Presidents, where he was elected as the student member of the Louisiana Board of Regents.

3 earn veterinary degrees from LSU

BATON ROUGE — Three Southwest Louisiana students were among 114 students who were presented Veterinary Medicine degrees as Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine celebrated its 47th annual Veterinary Medicine Commencement.

Sarah Ann Edwards, DVM, of Lake Charles will begin work in a small animal practice in Metairie

Hannah Claire Dartez, DVM, from of Jennings will begin work in a mixed animal practice in Jennings.

Georgia Nicole Hansen, DVM, of Sulphur received the Companion Animal Surgery Certificate of Merit and will begin work in a small animal practice in Flower Mound, Texas.

Sanders named to dean’s list

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Grant Michael Sanders earned a 3.5 grade-point average or higher in the spring 2023 semester, securing a reputable position on Southern Arkansas University’s Dean’s List.

Sanders is a senior sport management (coaching option) major from Iowa, La.

Crews recognized on dean’s list

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Trinity Crews of Lake Arthur has been recognized on the Missouri State University’s spring 2023 dean’s list.

To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours during the spring semester and achieve at least a 3.50 grade-point average.

Hebert honored at Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. — Rachel Hebert of Lake Charles has been included on the Washburn University president’s list for spring 2023.

To qualify for the list, a student must complete at least 12 hours of graded credits and earn a semester grade-point average of 4.0.

LeBlanc earns bachelor’s degree

MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. — Lauren LeBlanc of Westlake was among more than 4,100 students who graduated  from Mississippi State University in spring 2023.

LeBlanc graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Three earn dean’s list honors

SHREVEPORT — Three Southwest Louisiana students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2023 semester at Centenary College.

The honor list names all students who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in 12 or more semester hours taken for a letter grade during the fall semester.

Local students recognized include Camren Hohn of Iowa, La.; and Jordan Hoffman and Rylie Molina, both of Lake Charles.

LSU awards law degrees

BATON ROUGE — LSU Law has conferred law degrees to 185 students who graduated as part of the Class of 2023.

Among the graduates, 137 earned a Juris Doctor and optional Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law (JDCL), 36 earned a Juris Doctor (JD), and 12 earned a Master of Laws (LLM). Additionally, 17 graduates earned an optional Graduate Certificate in Energy Law and Policy (GCELP) and 20 earned an optional Graduate Certificate in Estate Planning and Taxation (GCEPT).

Local graduates recognized: Coleton Bryce Guidry, JD, of DeRidder; Jack Thomas Aguillard, JD · GCEPT, Catherine Gail Hunt, JDCL · GCELP,  Michael McGauly Thompson, JDCL, and Matthew J. Trahan, JDCL, all of Lake Charles; Mikha De’Anne Romero, JDCL, of Sulphur; Lea Elizabeth Daigle, JDCL · GCELP, of Jennings; and Christopher Andrew Ward, JDCL, of Leesville.

Two earn full engineering scholarships

Packaging Corporation of America in DeRidder has presented full engineering scholarships to Jacob Cobb and Jody Clendening Jr. Cobb, son of Tyler and Melissa Cobb, graduated from DeRidder High School and will be attending Louisiana Tech University in chemical engineering in the fall. Clendening, son of Jody and Mandy Clendening, graduated from East Beauregard High School and will be attending McNeese State University in chemical engineering in the fall.
