The magical tale of the Frog Prince will be coming to The Children’s Theatre Company this weekend.
Audiences will view the familiar tale of the princess that befriends a frog from her castle’s pond that ultimately becomes her prince.
“The Frog Prince” is a classic tale from the Brothers Grimm that has become popularized since being retold with a New Orleans twist by Disney Animations in 2009 with the release of “The Princess and the Frog.”
The story follows the princess, and explores themes of selfishness, friendship and loyalty as she learns to commit to being the Frog’s friend, said Kerry Onxley, Artistic Director.
He said audiences can expect a “simple storyline laced with classical and modern comedy.”
“The audience will fall in love with this enchanting story.”
There are 20 actors involved with the production, including tech crew and design teams from Westlake High Theatre. The performers will be students aged 5 to 18.
“The Frog Prince” went into production in February of this year, and the experience has been fun, Onxley said.
“The performers loved this opportunity,” he said.
The practices and performances teach the students emotional intelligence. “With every Children’s Theatre Company show, the actors are encouraged to explore their emotions, expand their imagination and develop their own unique voice,” he explained. “Every theatre experience engages a child’s brain, body and emotions in ways to encourage their confidence and find joy in self-expression.”
The performances are non – musical and will last just under an hour.
There will be two performances held at the Westlake High School Theatre this weekend: Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 21 at 3 p.m.
Thickets are $15 for both children and adults.
