SULPHUR — Landon Victorian returned to full-time duty and led Barbe to a 5-1 win over District 3-5A rival Sulphur Thursday night in a nonselect Division I semifinal game.

The No. 2 Bucs (38-1) advanced to the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday. They will face top-seeded West Monroe in a rematch of the 2021 championship game, won by Barbe.

Barbe answered right back, going ahead 2-1 on the bottom of the inning on a triple by Kaden Bellard and homer to left by Presley Courville.

The Bucs doubled their lead in the third inning with Bellard blasting a two-run triple to right field to score Donovan LaSalle and J.D. Alexander.

Courville scored on an Owen Galt sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

Victorian made the lead hold up, limiting the Tors to three hits in 6⅔ innings. He retired 12 batters in a row from the third to seventh innings.

The Tors loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh on a walk by Gremillion and single by Devall followed by Pierce McCormick being hit by a pitch.

Seth Hebert relieved Victorian and got a strikeout to end the game.

Victorian missed the final week of the regular season and first round of the playoffs with an injury, then was limited to 39 pitches in a quarterfinal win over Neville.

“As the game went on I started getting my offspeed over, started executing my pitches better,” Victorian said. “I became more of a pitcher instead of being out there just throwing.”

LaSalle, Bellard and Courville each reached base twice for the Bucs.

Beddoe, Devall and Gage Trahan had Sulphur’s trio of hits. Starting pitcher Jake Brown, like Victorian an LSU commitment, struck out eight batters and allowed seven hits.
