Burks, Williams win individual gold, lead Bucs to third place finish at state track meet

BATON ROUGE — Barbe’s Ariel Williams and Kennedi Burks combined for four podium finishes on Saturday at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association state track meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

The Bucs finished third with 58 points behind co-champions Scotlandville and Zachary, who had 70 points each.

The meet was delayed several hours by thunderstorms that rolled through the Baton Rouge area.

Burks won the 400-meter dash in 55.21 seconds and anchored the winning 4×400 relay team (3:52.94) of Reese Trahan, Megan Colston and Aniyah Lavan.

Williams won the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 7 3/4 inches, and two inches ahead of runner-up  Lavan. Williams added a third place finish in the long jump (17-5 3/4)

Williams, Lavan, Trahan and Zaitaeyiah Nickerson-Llomax took third in the 4×200 relay (1:40.49).

Sam Houston’s Broncos Williams won the Class 5A shotput with an area best throw of 52 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

In Class 4A, Leeville’s Keeton Johnson won the 1600 run in 4:25.89.
