A Lake Arthur couple have been indicted for murder after their 12-year-old son died from malnutrition last year.

The grand jury indicted Jennifer Ann Duhon, 40, and Adam Duhon, 40, on second-degree murder charges in connection with the boy’s death, according to District Attorney Lauren Heinen.

The Duhons were arrested in February after an autopsy report listed the boy’s cause of death as a homicide due to complications from malnutrition.

They both remain in jail on $1 million bond.

Hospital records indicated that the boy was 42 inches tall and weighed 28 pounds at the time of death, according to information released at the time by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Chris Ivey said detectives began investigating the case last October after the Department of Family and Services notified them after the boy died Oct. 17, 2022 at Lady’s of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge.

The autopsy was performed Oct. 24, 2022 but not received by the Jeff Davis Parish Coroner’s Office until Jan. 10, 2023.

If convicted of second-degree murder, the parents would face life in prison without parole.

The case against the couple was presented to the grand jury by Assistant District Attorney Burleigh Doga.
