LCPD arrests two in ongoing homicide investigation

Two arrests have been made in the Saturday, April 8, homicide in the 4200 block of 5th Avenue.

On that date at 6:42 p.m., officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched in reference to a possibly deceased person in a vehicle.

Upon their arrival, officers found an unresponsive man inside a white Honda Accord. Acadian Ambulance arrived on scene and the man was pronounced deceased.

Detectives were assigned to the investigation and the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the scene. During their preliminary examination, it was discovered that the man suffered a gunshot wound.

The victim was identified as 20-year-old Devyn Keon Thomas of Lake Charles.

During the course of the investigation, detectives reviewed video surveillance and other evidence collected. They learned this incident began as a drug transaction, which led to a shooting. Through the investigation, detectives identified one suspect and an additional person of interest.

On Thursday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Caleb Ahmir McFann of Lake Charles, for one count of first-degree murder, principal. Judge Tony Fazzio set bond at $750,000.

On Friday, LCPD SWAT officers served the arrest warrant and a search warrant at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of 5th Avenue. McFann was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he remains in custody at the issuance of this release.

Also on Friday a 16-year-old female was arrested for first-degree murder, principal, at LCPD Headquarters in connection to this investigation. She was booked on a juvenile custodial affidavit, signed by Judge Cynthia Guillory, and is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.
