Cars for Christ: Car show rolling in on May 7

As always, the upcoming “Cars for Christ” car show is open to all vehicles, including all motorcycles and trucks. That wide-open field has made it possible for attendees to see some unusual entrees from time to time.

“Last year, we even had a hearse,” said car show coordinator Beth Bowers.

St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church will be hosting the 8th annual car show Sunday, May 7, from noon to 5 p.m. at 1500 Country Club Road. The event is free to spectators. Attendees can look forward to a bake sale and a concessions area serving hot dogs, chili dogs and Mr. Gatti’s pizza. Entertainment will include a show by magician Bart Glatt, a Maplewood Middle School Performing Arts presentation of “At the Hop,” face painting and balloons by Helen Lewis, a performance by musician Thomas Williams and a silent auction. Hobo Hotel and Alliance of Therapy Dogs will be on hand, and Life Share will be conducting a blood drive.

For car show participants, registration is $25 per vehicle the day of the show.

Judges’ choice, people’s choice and participants’ choice awards will be at 4:15 p.m. in all classes of vehicles. Over 30 handmade trophies will be awarded, along with a number of
door prizes.

Proceeds from this year’s show will go towards the Plauché quintuplets’ college education fund.

“The quints (Corinne, Miles, Owen, Reece and Tessa Plauché) are 10 this year,” said Bowers. “Last year, they were a big help. They even helped us count ballots. They’ll be back this year, too.”

Event sponsors include Lake Charles Toyota, TC Powder Coating, Stine’s, Dr. Ken Parks, Lindsey Cutler State Farm Insurance, Lanier Plumbing, Service Tire Pro and Candice Alexander Art Studio.
