Merryville man dies of injuries sustained in Monday crash

A 39-year-old Merryville man died as the result of a single vehicle crash Monday on La. Hwy. 111, just north of Eli Field Road in Beauregard Parish.
Shortly after 5:15 p.m., troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to the accident.
The crash claimed the life of Chase Alton Hickman.
The initial investigation revealed a 2016 Buick Enclave, driven by Hickman, was traveling north on La. Hwy. 111.
The Buick traveled off the right side of the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a culvert. After striking the culvert, the Buick became airborne and overturned.
Hickman was not restrained and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a Lake Charles area hospital for treatment.
Toxicology samples were obtained from Hickman and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
On Friday, Troop D was notified that Hickman had succumbed to his injuries.
Troop D has investigated 9 fatal crashes resulting in 10 deaths in 2023.
