BREAKING: Sub-freezing temperatures expected tonight

A freeze warning will be in effect overnight tonight and into Monday morning as a high-pressure system moves southeast today, pushing a reinforcing cold front and colder air southward into the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Meteorologist Marti Calhoun with the National Weather Service Lake Charles office said a combination of mostly clear skies and nearly calm winds will help temperatures drop below freezing for several hours tonight.

Much of Louisiana and the interior southeast Texas will be effected.

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing after midnight. Areas in central Louisiana may see below-freezing temperatures for up to
5 to 7 hours, and up to 3 to 4 hours in Southwest Louisiana and interior southeast Texas, Calhoun said.

A freeze warning will be in effect 1-9 a.m. Monday morning.

“Several hours of sub-freezing temperatures may kill crops and sensitive vegetation, as well as harm unprotected outdoor plumbing,” Calhoun said.
