The Moss Bluff Little League and Community Center and Playground District 4 of Ward 1 boards have come to an agreement to continue this year’s recreation baseball and softball seasons.

Tension between the two boards came to a head at an emergency meeting on Feb. 23 held to address safety concerns regarding the baseball and softball complex.

Representatives from both boards met the following day to civilly discuss the issues addressed at the emergency meeting. Cody White, Moss Bluff Little League president said progress was made.

The safety concerns discovered by the Little League Board — bases not lined up with the home plate, exposed electrical wires on the field, holes present around the field in plain areas, debris spread throughout the park, multiple areas with sharp, rusted pipes protruding from the ground and concrete walkways covered with algae and mud — have been worked on and are nearly completed.

The Community Center Board confirmed the Little League will be allowed to use the fields beginning Monday, March 6, weather permitting. Further updates regarding practice will be given to League coaches to pass on to parents.

“Safety is our No. 1 priority and concern,” he said. “We hope to get your kids back on the field as soon as possible.”

Safety concerns that are not addressed by March 6 will be fenced off, said a Community Center Board member at their regular meeting on Monday.

In an effort to clean up the fields, the League will be hosting a Community Field Day 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, March 12, with permission from the Community Center Board.

White said needed pieces of equipment are shovels, hoe/cultivator, rake, tamps and a pressure washer.

Park maintenance staff will be present to operate heavy machinery.

“It is time to come together as boards and as a community to follow a path forward,” White said. “We now have a better understanding of each other’s boards. We’ve come together and are looking forward to the return of Moss Bluff baseball and softball.”
