Our sweet Carla Denise Primeaux, age 51, departed this earthly life on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn “Shonnie” Gaspard Primeaux; and is survived by her father, John Lonnie Primeaux; step-mother Carolyn Primeaux; sister, Connie Lavergne and husband, Chad; brother, Lonnie Ray Primeaux; her two nephews, Tyler and Cade Lavergne; step-sister Wendy Primeaux and husband Derrick; her special aunts, Nelvia Murphy and husband Guy; and Sylvia Mangum and many more aunts, uncles and cousins.
Carla was born on Nov. 10, 1971, in Lake Charles, La., into a large family (her mother had thirteen brothers and sisters; her father had four brothers). She adored spending time with her family; and, especially with her two nephews and their dogs, TJ and Bo. Carla always had the sweetest smile that left an impression on anyone she met and it grew even larger when she spotted a new designer purse. Carla was a 1991 graduate of South Cameron High School, and received an associate degree in accounting from Sowela Technical Community College.
A devout Catholic, Carla maintained a strong faith through many trials and tribulations both personally and professionally. She dedicated her life to the Catholic Church, beginning her career with the Diocese of Lake Charles in Creole at Sacred Heart of Jesus. Serving as secretary and assistant for many years, Carla served Fathers Bernard, McGrath and Goodley, among others. She loved Cameron Parish and cherished its people with whom she survived Hurricane Rita and the rebuilding of the Catholic community.
Carla relocated as the bookkeeper to Villa Maria Retirement Center at Our Lady of Queen of Heaven parish where she enjoyed the residents and appreciated the mentorship of Carmel Fazzio. This position led her to the central office at the Diocese of Lake Charles, and from there she moved to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She loved her chosen church family, Fathers Ruben Buller and Sam Bond, Bob, Cookie, Pam, Philip, and Sue.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Lake Charles. The Very Rev. Ruben Buller will serve as Celebrant with other priest concelebrants. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetary under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Cursillo Rosary beginning at 6 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until leaving in procession to the church at 9:30 a.m.
The family would like to give special thanks to the medical staffs of MD Anderson, and Lake Charles Memorial Hospital ICU, and her doctors Buzdar, Broussard, Foster, Shamat & Greenman.
Pallbearers are Cade Lavergne, Tyler Lavergne, Chad McCardle, Guy Murphy III, Derrick Primeaux, and Grant Sanders.
Memorial donations may be made in Carla Primeaux’s name to St Jude or the charity of your choice.
