James “Jim” Nevils III

James “Jim” Nevils III, 91, of Lake Charles, passed away at 8:57 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, in a local hospital.
Mr. Nevils was born on April 7, 1931, in Lake Charles where he lived all of his life and attended LaGrange Senior High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the infantry division in the Korean Conflict near the 38th parallel boundary. Mr. Nevils was a carpenter by trade and retired at the young age of 52 from Lake Charles Lumber Company. He was a member of Sale Street Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a cook in the soup kitchen for many years and a member of University Baptist Church where he was also a deacon. Mr. Nevils enjoyed playing dominos with the ladies at the church.
He was an avid fisherman and golfer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Steven Nevils of Lake Charles, James Brian Nevils (Kim) of Moss Bluff, Douglas Lynn Nevils (Donna) of Sulphur, and Christine Gay Miller (Terry) of Moss Bluff; sisters, Linda LaRocca of Lake Charles, and Carolyn Leubner (Carl) of Westlake; eight grandchildren, Michael Adam Nevils, Brandon Nevils (Heather), Candace Mosely (Gene), Mehgan Kutsyk (Roman), Lakyn Jackson (Scott), Kaitlyn Galvan, Melanie Smith (Eric), and Christopher Miller (Lexie); and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Nevils; parents, Hazel and James Nevils Jr.; grandson, James Lee Nevils; and siblings, Mac Wayne Nevils, Buddy Nevils, Claudette LeBlanc and Doris Nevils.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Pastor Drew Mills will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will continue on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.
