Sophomore Chloe Bordelon led Iota to a straight-set nondistrict win over Barbe Tuesday. The Bulldogs won 25-21, 25-15, 25-10 to improve to 5-4.

Bordelon had a kill, block and ace to score Iota’s first three points as the Bulldogs raced to a 10-3 lead. She finished with four aces and four kills.

“She is just a sophomore but she played some as a freshman and is doing extremely well,” Iota head coach Meredith Hebert said of Bordelon. “This year she is truly better. She is capable of putting the ball in places, like down the line or across the court. She is placing the ball better.”

Hebert said the Bulldogs offense was in good form against the Bucs (4-6).

“We passed the ball well and were able to put it down,” she said. “We are coming along. It took a little while but we are coming together and it is working out for the best for us. I would like to see us get better at back-row passing and a few other things.”

Chelsea Thibodeaux added five kills for Iota. Rose McDaniel and Brinna Hebert added four each.

The win was the fifth in seven matches for the Bulldogs, who opened the season with a pair of losses.

Barbe head coach Katie Franks said her team is still looking for consistency on offense.

“We were giving good effort on the back row defensively, getting some good get-ups,” she said. “Offensively, we just struggled with our errors.”

Franks said the match was similar to the Bucs’ season to date.

“This year we have had good effort defensively and gone for a lot of balls,” she said. “If we can just clean up our passing and service feeds, then on offense clean up the blocking and errors we can be successful.”

Ann Kat Barrett led the Bucs with 18 digs. Rory Boyd added five kills.

The Bucs travel to face crosstown rival St. Louis in a nondistrict match on Thursday. Iota hosts Church Point Thursday in its next match.
