James Harold Verrette

James Harold Verrette, 89, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022.
He was born in Mamou, La., on June 22, 1933, to Valcour and Fanny Verrette. After serving in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, he returned to Mamou and married Shirley Mae Hollier. They soon moved to Lake Charles where Harold embarked on a career with Borden’s for over 38 years, retiring in 1995. He and Shirley were long-time members of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church. Harold was a lifetime DAV member where he held several offices. He was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus member and enjoyed cooking for KC members for many years at Christ the King Church. He loved a good shrimping trip and was most happy when tinkering in his shop and working in his garden.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years; his three sons, Dennis (Lisa), Donald (Shively), Patrick (Annette); sister, Delores Matt; numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Leroy Verrette, LD Verrette, Amedine Fontenot, Earl Verrette and Burke Verrette.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with a rosary at 12:30 p.m.
