Unrestrained passenger killed in single-vehicle crash

An unrestrained passenger was killed late Friday in a single-vehicle fatal crash near La. 113 in Beauregard Parish. The passenger’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring was traveling south on La. 113. For reasons still under investigation, the Chrysler traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a tree. The Chrysler became engulfed in flames as a result of the crash.

The front seat passenger, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to an Alexandria area hospital for treatment. Seat belt use on the part of the driver is unknown due to the extent of damage to the Chrysler.

A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
