Dalton Anthony Miller, a servant of the Lord Jesus, moved into eternal glory with his Heavenly Father on Aug. 6, 2022 while surrounded by family and loved ones in his home after a lengthy deterioration from Lewy Body Dementia. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m., with a time of visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service, at First Baptist Church Moss Bluff. The Revs. Bill Saxby and Ray Swift will officiate. Interment will be at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder.
Dalton, aged 79 years, was born on Oct. 17, 1942 to Henry Clark “Dugan” Miller and Mae Frances McCurley Miller. He graduated from Merryville High School and later from McNeese State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dalton married Sammie Ruth Cole on Sept. 5, 1964 and began building a legacy of faith within the hearts of their three children, Keith Wayne, Carmen Renee and Michael Kevin. Dalton followed the words of Deuteronomy 6:7, (You shall teach God’s Word diligently to your children) by having nightly Bible study and prayer time with the family.
Dalton loved God and he loved people, showing compassion to the widow, the fatherless and the stranger. He loved his church, First Moss Bluff where he served as a deacon since 1984. He loved greeting, giving candy, and handshakes – especially the “jiggle” handshake – if you know, you know.  He spent much of his time off fixing stuff around his house, the church-house or maybe your house if you needed a hand. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and would take anyone with him who expressed an interest. To have a good time, all he needed was his canoe and a fishing pole and he knew where to catch the fish – in the mouth!
Dalton worked at PPG from 1967 until his retirement in 2007 and enjoyed the work that his mechanical engineering background provided. It was at PPG that Dalton met his lifelong friend, Wayne Spier. They fished and hunted together and were industrious in their time off together, planting gardens, helping each other with home projects and entertaining the grandchildren.
Preceding in death were his parents, Dugan and Mae Miller; brother, Prentice Miller; sister, Janis Guillory, Paula Miller, and Elwanda Miller.  Dalton is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sammie Miller; his children, Keith and wife Lauri, Carmen, and Kevin; his twin sisters, Frances Lucille Baldwin and Frankie Louise Miller; his three beautiful granddaughters, Kelcie Duhon and husband Jordan, Bayleigh Kempainen and husband Philip, and Madison Crowe and husband Rykley; along with five great-grandchildren. Dalton also leaves behind many other cherished nieces, nephews, friends, and the “special kids” – Roy and Dawn Walter, and David and Danyelle Crow. The effects of Dalton Miller’s legacy of faith in the Lord Jesus will continue through many people for many generations to come.
The family would like to thank Anne Marie and Brandi with Heart of Hospice for their joy, kindness and respect while assisting with Dalton’s care. To honor Dalton’s life and legacy in the Kingdom of God, the family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to: The First Baptist Christian Academy building fund, Samaritan’s Purse, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
