Hertz Investment Group, owners of the Capital One Tower in downtown Lake Charles, announced Tuesday that construction is set to begin on the building the second week of August.

The tower has remained vacated since Hurricane Laura made landfall in Southwest Louisiana in 2020.

“The aluminum and glass work for the entire mezzanine area is currently being manufactured and will be delivered to the site in early August, at which point the construction on site will commence,” the Los Angeles-based real estate firm said in a statement to the American Press. “In addition, the roof is set to be replaced during the same time frame.”

The group said it is hopeful the material needed for the freight

elevator will be delivered by October, “which will allow access to the higher floors sometime in the month of February.”

Hurricane Laura’s Category 4 winds in August 2020 left the 22-story Capital One Tower heavily damaged and blew out most of its glass windows.

The tower had 73 tenants when Hurricane Laura made landfall.
