Iowa’s Kamryn Broussard named LSWA Class 3A all-state softball MVP

Iowa junior Kamryn Broussard’s prowess on offense and defense earned her the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A all-state softball MVP honor.

Broussard, a returning first-teamer, led Iowa to the final for a second consecutive year. She batted .470 with 13 doubles, 15 home runs, 56 RBIs and 53 runs scored with a .966 fielding percentage.

Iowa went 27-7 and lost to Buckeye 8-6 in the final.

She is joined by teammates Arlee Darbonne and Ana Alexander on the first team. Darbonne led the Yellow Jackets in the circle with a 26-2 record, 168 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings and a 2.14 earned run average. As Iowa’s second baseman, Alexander hit .427 with eight doubles, four triples, a home run, 46 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.

Also on the team from Southwest Louisiana are South Beauregard’s big-hitting senior duo of Morgan Eaves (.490, 12 doubles, 24 HR, 78 RBIs) and Emelie Price (.471, 12 doubles, 12 HR, 39 RBIs) and Iota senior outfielder Malayna Daigle (.477, 12 doubles, 4 triples, 10 HR, 43 RBIs).

On the baseball team, St. Louis Catholic junior catcher earned first-team honors along with a pair of seniors from Iota in infielders Tyler Lejeune and Nick Duplechain.

LaRocca, a Louisiana Tech commitment, batted .407 with 14 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 33 runs scored, 23 RBIs and 25 stolen bases, batting leadoff for the Division II semifinalist Saints.

Lejeune (.392, 18 doubles, 5 HR, 37 RBIs, 50 runs) and Duplechain (.505, 10 HR, 11 doubles, 58 RBIs / 8-2, 2.36 ERA) led the Bulldogs to the semifinals.

Lutcher swept the top honors on the baseball team in MVP freshman Marshall Louque (7-2, 0.27 ERA / .475 avg., 19 doubles, 6 HR, 52 RBIs) and Coach of the Year Ryan Jensen. They led Lutcher to its first Louisiana High School Athletic Association baseball title in nearly a decade.

In his second season at Buckeye, Justin Kees was named the softball coach of the year after leading the Panthers to a 28-8 record and their first state championship in nine years.
