James “Jim” Cotton, 77, of Lake Charles, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.
Jim was a longtime resident of Lake Charles. He attended LaGrange High school and was a veteran of the United States Navy. While stationed in the Navy he met the love of his life, Kathleen M. Guinan in Connecticut. The young couple relocated back to the Lake Charles area, where they settled and raised their family. Jim retired for the Olin Corporation, now Lyondell Basel, following his career as a machinist and was known to be a “Jack of all trades” to his family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering with his tools on anything that needed fixing. His favorite times were those that he spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Pearson Guinan; sister, Lucille Hunter and her husband, Edward; brothers-in-law, Jay Guinan and wife MaryAnn, and Jim Brautigam. Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Stacey Peveto, Lake Charles; son, James Houston Cotton Jr. (Lori), Antelope, Calif.; grandchildren, Megan Landry (Cameron), Tanja Diosdado (Damon), and J.T. Cotton (Whitney); great-grandchildren, Houston, Xiola, River and Jay; sister-in-law, Dorothy Brautigam; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family of the heart (including all of his four legged furred friends).
As to Jim’s wishes, no formal services are to be observed. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral home of Lake Charles.
