SULPHUR — No. 1 Grand Lake is headed back to the Class 1A championship game for a second consecutive season after beating No. 4 Logansport 11-1 in six innings on Wednesday in the semifinals.

“We swung the ball really well, and we had somebody like Devin David on the mound, it is going to be enough,” Grand Lake head coach Tyler Alton said. “We were a little more comfortable in this game than they were.

“We have been here a couple of times. It is still the same group that was here last year. Hopefully we just keep on inching closer to the finish line.”

The Hornets (22-6) will get a rematch with No. 3 Oak Grove in the final at 6 p.m. Friday. Oak Grove, the defending state champion, beat No. 2 LaSalle 5-3 on Wednesday.

Garrett Walker led the Hornets, going 4-for-4 with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. Second baseman Kylin Broussard hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning and had a huge defensive play in the top of the inning. Broussard made a diving stop on a Roper Smith grounder and made a one-hop throw to first base from his knees.

David David went the distance for the Hornets with eight strikeouts and two walks.

A key play in the second inning swung the momentum. With the bases loaded and one out, Logansport went for a squeeze bunt. Duhon saw the runner take off and stepped off the rubber to throw home. Keaton Cason bunted but was called out for interference. Grand Lake went on to score four runs in the bottom half of the inning and never trailed.
