IOWA — St. Louis Catholic girls dominated across the board Wednesday to win their second consecutive Class 3A, Region II track and field championship.

The St. Louis girls finished with 191 points. E.D. White edged Iowa for the runner-up spot, 67-64.3.

The boys team title went down to the wire.

Trevonte Citizen’s third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.54) pulled defending state champion Lake Charles Prep within a point of E.D. White, 70-69. But the Cardinals scored 16 points in the 3,200 to pull away from the rest of the field.

St. Louis got strong performances in the field from outstanding track athlete Tia Reder (1, triple jump, 37-101/2; 2, long jump, 18-41/2) and Emma Freeman (1, discus, 116-4; 3, javelin, 128-7), plus Ella Segura swept the three distance races (800, 2:20.83; 1,600, 5:23.75; 3,200, 12:17.5) to earn outstanding track honors.

Reder’s mark in the triple jump is the fourth best in the state this season.

Iowa’s Jaya Grandney moved up from 13th in the state long jump rankings to seventh with a personal best of 18 feet, 8 inches.

South Beauregard’s Trinity Spooner upped her state-leading throw in the javelin to 151-8 on her final throw. She is ranked No. 3 in the nation according to Milesplit USA.

LCCP’s Jayla Mason won the 200 (25.19) and 400 (56.64).

LCCP sealed up the runner-up trophy with a win in the 4×400 relay for 79 points. E.D. White finished with 86 points.

The Class 3A state meet will be run May 7 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
