Dive team recovers car, body near Old Highway 90 boat launch

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division & Dive Team have recovered a fully submerged car with the body of a man inside near the boat launch on Old Highway 90.

Spokesperson Kayla Vincent said their office was notified at 11:45p.m. on Sunday by the car’s ONSTAR service in reference to a possible crash at the boat launch.

“When deputies arrived they located a car that had driven into the water and was fully submerged,” Vincent said. “The CPSO Marine Division & Dive Team were deployed and recovered the driver, Christopher L. Williams, 36, Katy, Texas, who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The investigation is continuing and the cause of the incident remains unknown.

As mandated by state law a toxicology report will be conducted on the driver, Vincent said.

The Calcasieu Coroner will determine cause of death.
