It’s an inflatable Christmas for LC family

When it comes to holiday yard decorations, Tyler and Sara Privet go all out. Nearly every square foot of their lawn at 905 Carondelet St. in Canal Place Subdivision is a Christmas wonderland with around 20 inflatable characters from a smiling unicorn to a Santa dressed in camo. The yard is also adorned with colorful lights, candy canes and snowflakes. After sunset, the garage door serves as a projection screen for Christmas movies.

A smiling, waving 20-foot tall snowman is easily the biggest inflatable in the yard.

“We used to live in Texas and everyone there would decorate in a big way,” said Tyler Privet. “One year everyone had this giant snowman so I had to get one, too.”

Privet said he does it for his children, 6-year-old Quinn and year-old River. Daughter Quinn in particular is a huge fan of Christmas inflatables, which is one of the reasons they have so many.

Privet said seeing the looks on the faces of other children who ride by and see the yard for the first time also makes it all worth the effort.

It’s a lot of stuff, but Privet knows how to be thrifty as he grows the family’s Christmas collection.

“I usually shop the after-Christmas sales and get everything 70 to 90 percent off,” he said.
