Hayes man charged in Bell City shooting

A Hayes man has been charged with battery after a shooting someone in the abdomen during an argument.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said the shooting occurred Wednesday night in the 6100 block of La. 101 in Bell City.

“When deputies arrived they located the victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen,” Vincent said. “During the initial investigation it was discovered the suspect, Clint A. Carpenter, 39, 7629 Texas Avenue, Hayes, shot the victim after a verbal argument, then fled the scene.”

With the assistance of CPSO Air 1, deputies located Carpenter a short time later in a wooded area south of Hayes, near La 14.

He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with aggravated second-degree battery; illegal use of a dangerous weapon; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  J

Judge Mike Canaday set his bond at $175,000.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
