Jacob “Jay” Jerome Ellender passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, at the age of 79. He was a native of Sulphur, La., graduating from Sulphur High School in 1961. Jay served his country and was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
He was a resident of Moss Bluff for 38 years. As a member of the Masonic Lodge in Moss Bluff and Sulphur, Jay devoted much of his time volunteering for charity events. He will be remembered for his love of cooking and feeding those in need, especially the elderly and homebound. Jay was declared the Champion of multiple Chili Cookoffs. His snarky sense of humor was matched by no other and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Michael Kyle; and wife, Bridget; his grandson, Barrett Kyle; his sister, Rose Sablatura; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jay is preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Lynn Barrett Ellender; his parents, Ellis and Alita Ellender; seven siblings and eight-half siblings.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Carlyss on Wednesday, Oct. 13, beginning at 9 a.m. until a memorial service at 11 a.m. The Rev. George Barrett will officiate.
