In this edition of the Three Point Stance, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux preview Week 2 high school football games involving Southwest Louisiana large schools.

Which game involving a Class 5A or 4A school is most interesting?

WA: Benton at Barbe: The Bucs were markedly improved in last week’s win over LaGrange after an inconsistent debut performance. Wide receiver Jamaal Levi (154 yards) and running back Tylan Ceasar

(185) yards carried the offense while the defense forced three turnovers. Benton held Northwood-Shreveport to seven points in a win last week.

RA: Leesville vs. Captain Shreve. Leesville opened the season with a 35-14 thumping of Jennings on the road and will play in the Battle on the Border Saturday in Shreveport. Captain Shreve had to battle from a 9-0 halftime deficit last week against North DeSoto.

What is the best 3A game?

WA: Iota at St. Louis. The Bulldogs will be desperate for a win after losing at home to Iowa last week. The Saints defense forced six turnovers last week and shut out Crowley in the first half. The Bulldogs ran for nearly 300 yards last week and have one of the area’s best passing combos in quarterback Dawson Wallace and tight end Owen Harmon.

RA: Berwick at Westlake. The Rams look to build on their season-opening win, but Berwick is a bit of an unknown as the Panthers’ Week 1 game was canceled by Hurricane Ida. The Rams put up more than 250 rushing yards in the second half last week but will need a better start this week as Berwick defensive linemen Davis Sellers and E.J. Washington like to disrupt run games.

Name a player to watch.

WA: Iowa RB Ronald Young. Last week Young ran for 95 yards in a win over Iota. If he can handle the majority of the ball-carrying duties, the Yellow Jackets can move Curtis Deville around the field in hopes of creating a mismatch.

RA: Lake Charles College Prep linebacker Daylon Sibley. The junior was busy in the Trailblazers’ season opener at Germantown, Mississippi. He has 12 tackles, 10 solo, with two sacks and five tackles for a loss. He caught the No. 1 running back in Mississippi, four-star recruit Branson Robinson, in the backfield three times and caused a fumble.
