The state’s first micro-hospital is scheduled to open in Lake Charles by mid-October, a Houston-based development firm announced last week.

Officials with AMD Global LLC said the 33,000-square-foot facility is being built on seven acres at 3730 Nelson Road. A groundbreaking took place at the site late last year.

The hospital will be under the Avail Health system. Fadi Moughnieh is the marketing director for AMD Global, Avail Health’s parent company. He said Tuesday that the micro-hospital is licensed the same as a regular hospital, but with a smaller footprint.

“It’s more individualized,” Moughnieh said. “It’s all about visual aesthetics, how the patient feels.”

Moughnieh said the hospital will not offer surgical services, but will provide emergency services and inpatient hospitalization. A news release from AMD Global said the hospital will include “procedure rooms for cardiac, gastrointestinal and pain management.”

“We have some of the best doctors coming in and working with this,” Moughnieh said.

When scouting potential sites for the hospital, Moughnieh said the Lake Charles area “seemed like a perfect site.”

“We feel there’s a need for health care in Lake Charles and Louisiana in general,” he said.

Moughnieh said the hospital also wants to educate its patients on ways to improve their overall health.

“Everything we do is about the patient, from the time they come in, to the time they leave and after that,” he said.

Moughnieh said AMD Global has plans to build similar hospitals around the state.
