A Lake Charles man accused of molesting two girls was indicted on rape and battery charges Thursday in state district court.

Marlin Dewary Demouchet, 37, is accused of raping a girl when she was 9 or 10 years old and committing sexual battery against an 8-year-old girl. The crimes allegedly happened between Aug. 1, 2010, and Jan. 31, 2011.

Demouchet is being held in the Calcasieu Correctional Center on $930,000 bond. He also faces counts of simple escape and resisting an officer by flight, according to jail records.

When investigators told Demouchet he was going to be arrested, he reportedly began hitting himself with a chair in the interview room of the Sheriff’s Office. He received stitches at a local hospital, where he reportedly tried to flee on foot, leading deputies on a chase.

At the time he was arrested, Sheriff’s Office officials said another agency was also investigating allegations of child sex abuse.

The grand jury considered 14 cases, returning 14 true bills. Aside from the three sex cases, the rest of the files were drug offenses.

Frankie Lee Shepherd, 45, was indicted on a sexual battery charge. He is alleged to have molested a child over a period of seven years, beginning in 2005 when the child was 4 years old.

Judge Clayton Davis set Shepherd’s bond at $500,000 and ordered him to stay away from children.

Beaumont, Texas, man Joshua Thorin Hall, 34, was indicted on a charge of molestation of a juvenile. He is alleged to have molested a 5-year-old on Jan. 31. Hall is being held on $35,000 bond in the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
