Sulphur police have investigated several recent burglaries, spokesman Mel Estess said. He said four people, two of them juveniles, were arrested Friday in the area of Tamarack and Ruth streets.

A policeman saw a person begin running after seeing the officer’s car early Friday morning, Estess said. A perimeter was set up and four suspects were caught near Sulphur High School, Estess said.

Estess said the four committed vehicle burglaries. He said they took items from unlocked cars and stole unsecured bicycles, Estess said.

Additional property stolen during the burglaries was recovered throughout the weekend, Estess said. Later during the day and throughout the weekend, officers recovered additional property taken during the Friday morning burglaries.

Jacob Allen Henry, 18, West Burton Street, and Nicholas Vincent Deleon, 17, East Napoleon Street, were charged with theft, simple burglary, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and resisting arrest. Henry’s and Deleon’s bonds were set at $2,500.

The juveniles, ages 15 and 14, were arrested for curfew violation and resisting arrest and were released to their parents, Estess said.

Estess said police also worked vehicle burglaries in the Maplewood area and at local motels. Burglaries were reported on East Lee and Dubach streets the night of Aug. 21, Estess said. Unlocked vehicles were again targeted, he said.

Estess said Sulphur police issued an arrest warrant for Westlake man Sedric Lamar Green, 21, Prater Road, who was arrested by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office on Monday for vehicle and ATM theft. Green’s bond was set at $50,000.

Estess said no arrests have been made in the vehicle burglaries at the motels. The vehicles’ windows were broken Friday night, he said.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats reminded residents to always lock their vehicles and keep valuables hidden from view. Backpacks, gym bags, cash, coins, checkbooks, credit cars, wallets, purses, laptop computers, iPods, GPS units and cellphones are commonly reported stolen from vehicles, he said.

Residents should mark their valuables to aid in their recovery, Coats said.
